Practical tips on how to clean glasses properly?
Step by step procedure: how to clean your glasses properly?
When cleaning your glasses, it is important to follow the correct procedure to avoid damaging the lenses or the frame. We recommend the following steps:
- Spray Cleaning Spray - Apply a small amount of spray directly to both sides of the lenses.
- Wipe with a microfiber cloth — Gently wipe the lenses in circular motions until they are clean and dry. You can also use the cloth to wipe the beams and the frame itself, where dirt often accumulates.
- Check your glasses — Under the light, check the lenses for smudges and repeat cleaning if necessary.
- Avoid coarse paper towels and clothing — Paper towels and napkins or the sleeve of your T‑shirt may contain coarse fibers that can damage the lenses.
If your glasses are very dirty, or if you don’t have cleaning spray on hand, do step 1 as follows. Rinse your glasses with water and use a cleaning agent. Gently rinse the lenses and frames under lukewarm running water. This will remove dust and dirt that could scratch the lenses. Apply a drop of spring or mild alcohol-free soap to the lens surface and rub with your fingers. Then rinse the glasses again and continue with step number 2.

How to clean anti-glare glasses?
The lenses of our anti-reflective glasses are hardened, hydrophobic or oleophobic compared to glasses without anti-reflective coating.
Cleaning such glasses is therefore much easier. High-quality surface layers prevent dirt from settling and make it easier for it to slide off the lens surface. While the initial purchase price of the coatings may be higher, it will pay you back in the form of easier cleaning and extended life of the glasses.
When cleaning anti-reflective glasses, the:
- Avoid aggressive chemicals such as rubbing alcohol or acetone, which can damage the glass finish.
- Be cautious with older, longer used glasses where the anti-reflective effect may already be compromised. Rough and improper cleaning can accentuate this deficiency and impair vision through the glasses.
What is antireflex?
Anti-reflective treatment is a special coating on the lenses that reduces glare on the lenses and increases the clarity of the lenses. This minimises distracting light reflections, for example when driving at night or working on a computer. It also improves vision contrast and reduces eye fatigue.
How to clean scratched glasses?
Unfortunately, normal cleaning of scratched glasses will not remove the scratches. In the case of deep scratches, not only the surface finish on the lenses is damaged, but also the material itself. In this case, even scrubbing yourself more thoroughly will not help. Since scratches in the field of vision limit the functionality of the glasses, we recommend replacing the lenses.

Plastic frames are more susceptible to catching dirt than metal frames, so it is important to focus on cleaning plastic glasses properly. Follow these guidelines:
- Use a mild cleaning solution and a soft cloth.
- Regularly check and service glasses in the opticians to ensure they fit properly.
- Avoid high temperatures, aggressive chemicals and cosmetic products (hairsprays, perfumes) that could deform the plastic.
How often to clean my glasses?
Ideally, you should clean your glasses every day, especially if you work in a dusty environment or if they often fog up. Regular cleaning of dioptric glasses prolongs their life
“Make cleaning your dioptric glasses a routine. Every morning before you leave the house, check your glasses by eye and clean them according to our procedure.”
When cleaning , try to hold the glasses by the beam, not the lens surface, and put them on and off your face with both hands. If your glasses are not on your face, they should be stored and protected in the case.
